One of the best things to do in London when you are on a budget is go to their museums and galleries because many of them are free to enter. Some of these places to go are called National Gallery, Tate, British Museum, Science Museum, Natural History Museum, V & A, and the Museum of London. There is a lesser known museum called the Wellcome Collection for gruesome medical implements, or the Museum of Childhood for vintage toys and games. Some museums even do late-night openings or certain days, or have special free events, talks, films, and performances after closing time. They can be quite entertaining. In the East End, there is an event called the First Thursdays, and it’s on the first Thursday of each month.
London is full of entertainment such as London’s theater, which is famous throughout the world, but tickets can be pricey. To pick up cheaper tickets, go to the TKTS booth in Leicester Square. The sell tickets for half the price on the same day of the performance. If you enjoy live music, you will most likely find a free concert somewhere in the city. There are many different types of music genres as well. Ask around, and you will find almost anything. There is free classical music during lunchtime in the churches at St. Martin in the Fields and St. James’s Piccadilly. The Southbank Centre has a mix of performances from dance to jazz. There are also a ton of street performers around Covent Garden. If you want to check out up-and-coming bands, try visiting the pubs around Camden and Shoreditch. Many of the venues will let you in for free if you get there before a certain time. There are a ton of lovely films playing all over London, but they can get expensive around Leicester Square, but just up the road at the Prince Charles Cinema, the tickets are much cheaper on weekdays. If you end up staying in town for a while, you can become a member and get discounted tickets all of the time. There are an abundant amount of fun and cheap activities to do in this country. If you aren’t sure, just ask around. Enjoy the views.
